Travel to Nottingham
Intercontinental Arrivals
Most travellers arriving in the UK on long haul flights arrive at London
Heathrow airport as this takes the most direct flights from around the
world. Options for getting you out of Heathrow to Nottingham:
- You can then get a coach to Nottingham, or to the nearby East Midlands Airport and a bus from there into Nottingham, using National Express coaches. They have a travel office at the Central Coach Station at Heathrow: just follow the signs from the arrivals gate. You can also book online prior to travelling.
- Taxi will cost around £170 to Nottingham. You can book through www.airporttaxis-uk.co.uk. If there are three or more of you travelling together, this is a cost effective option.
- To take the train, follow the signs from the arrival desks for the Heathrow Express. This will take you into Central London to Paddington Station. You then need to negotiate the London Underground Tube system to Kings Cross/St. Pancras station. From here you can catch a train to Nottingham.
If you do not want to arrive at Heathrow, there are other options:
- Most long haul operators will be able to fly you to Birmingham International airport, and from there you can travel easily by train or taxi to Nottingham. To do this, you often have to break your journey by flying into another major European hub such as Paris, Frankfurt or Amsterdam, and then flying a second short haul flight either with the same operator or as a code share. However, this can be (a) considerably cheaper and (b) just as quick, once transfer times getting out of Heathrow are factored in.
- If travelling from the US, Continental flies overnight (7pm departure) from Newark, New Jersey, directly to Birmingham airport daily. You will arrive at around 7 am UK time. If there is a sufficient number of people arriving for either the workshop on Sunday the 12th or the conference on Tuesday the 14th on these flights then it is recommended that you share a taxi up to Nottingham as with three or more of you, this is a cost-effective option. Taxis will cost in the range of £70 to Nottingham. Book online through www.airporttaxis-uk.co.uk.
